ZipQuickLook

NOTE: xdd has a WAY better zip file plugin for Quick Look. Check it out here: http://homepage.mac.com/xdd/ Thanks for the pointer Macosxhints! When I originally wrote this plugin, google didn’t return xdd’s version. You should use it, it is WAY cooler than mine. Thanks for looking!

NOTE 2: The creator of BetterZip has released a Quick Look plugin that will handle a TON of archive formats (ZIP, TAR, GZip, BZip2, ARJ, LZH, ISO, CHM, CAB, CPIO, RAR, 7-Zip, DEB, RPM, StuffIt’s SIT, DiskDoubler, BinHex, and MacBinary). Get it at: http://macitbetter.com/BetterZipQL-1.0

I got sick of having to unzip zip files to see what’s in them. I’ve written a Quick Look plugin that will display the contents of a zip file. I hope to generalize it to support more archive formats in the future (tar, rar, etc).

Try it out: ZipQuickLook 0.2

To install copy the file in the DMG into ~/Library/QuickLook (You may need to create the QuickLook directory). To try it out, browse to a folder in the Finder that has a zip file. Select the zip file and press the space bar.

Todo:

  • Support other archive formats
  • Make the preview look a little nicer
  • Make it generate thumbnails for Cover Flow browsing
